Philippines: Agriculture dept tightens inspection of plant imports

MANILA, Philippines -- Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap said he had ordered a full inspection of all plant imports -- whether fruits or vegetables -- to protect the local onion industry from smuggling.
Yap said he had also directed plant quarantine officials to work double time and closely monitor inventories and prevailing prices.
