Philippines: Cordillera, Mindanao farmers move toward forging alliance

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET -- Vegetable industry leaders in the Cordillera Administrative Region and in Mindanao believed that combining their production and marketing strategies would better prepare the vegetable industry for globalization.

They said well organized farmers' groups in both regions could come up with a national vegetable database that could analyze each region's comparative advantage in vegetable production.

The leaders, who recently attended a stakeholders' consultation at the Department of Agriculture Training Institute at Benguet State University here, said a north-south farmers' cooperation was necessary to the industry's survival.
