Philippines: DA to tap WB funds for market-oriented services project

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to tap P900 million this year from the $60-million Diversified Farm Income and Market Development project funded by a multilateral financing institution the World Bank (WB).
Felizardo K. Virtucio Jr., WB's officer for rural development, natural resources and environmental sector operations, noted that the DA has made the commitment to speed up the implementation of the project, which seeks to assist farmers in marketing their produce.
In its yearly assessment of all active projects in the Philippines published in September 2006, WB noted that the project is experiencing implementation difficulties and is lagging behind its physical and disbursement targets.
