Philippines: Farmer support hobbles vegetable cold chain

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines -- The province's vegetable industry leaders are getting worried that the vegetable cold chain facility here has slowly become an ordinary business center for truckers instead of providing market links for farmers' products.

Gov. Nestor Fongwan and the Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Post Harvest Research and Extension (BPHRE) said the province continued to lose the "golden opportunities" the cold chain could provide in terms of improved packaging and securing more markets.
