According to reports in the Polish press, citing the country director of Carrefour's local operation, Alain Souillard, the investment budget for this year is to be increased to around PLN1 billion (USD340.2 million) from the previously stated PLN500 million (USD173 million). The expansion plans include the construction of several shopping malls (in Bialystok, Szczecin, Lublin, Glogow), the opening of seven new hypermarkets and approximately 20 supermarkets as well the transformation of the remaining Champion supermarkets into Carrefour Express stores. In the second half of the year, rebadging trials regarding the Globi supermarkets will be carried out. Although Mr Souillard has emphasised the organic character of this expansion, acquisitions should also not be excluded.
