Romanian food unions have accused supermarket chains of anti-trade practices which have cut their profits. An inquiry has been set up to address the high cost of listing fees, promotional services etc. They are also complaining about conditions in contracts which do not allow producers and manufacturers to supply other shops at cheaper prices. The unions have asked for a "code of good trade practice" for the supermarkets, which should be approved by the Competition Authority, and the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance. They also threatened to take the issue to the European Parliament, as well as to the European Commission.
