FARMERS can celebrate victory today, as the Competition Commission (CC) published a raft of proposals in a major shake-up of Britain's supermarkets.
Chief amongst those proposals is a move to establish a supermarket ombudsman to ensure fair trade between retailers and their suppliers.
The ombudsman will oversee and enforce a new strengthened and extended Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP) as well as arbitrate on complaints from suppliers.
The ombudsman will be able to proactively investigate supply chain practices and will produce an annual report on the new code, identifying areas of weakness and examples of good practice.
