Making Markets Work for the Poor - Challenges to Sida's Support to Private Sector Development (2003)

This report addresses the key principles for growth and provides a source of knowledge regarding poverty focused private sector development. It was prepared as a part of the preparation of Sida's Policy Guidelines but is not in itself a Sida policy document. It takes a broad, holistic approach to private sector development, encompassing basically all areas of development cooperation.

Improving Income among Rural Poor Strategic Guidelines for Sida Support to Market-Based Rural Poverty Reduction (2004)

Improving Income among Rural Poor is crucial in addressing poverty and should be one of Sida's foci in support of rural poverty alleviation. Gainful participation in markets is the means is the means to achive this end. This document outlines a set of strategic guidelines for how Sida more effectively could address improvements of income among rural poor in its development support. It is presented as a position paper in the sense that it reflects our current thinking and knowledge on the subject.

Private Sector Development -- Policy Guidelines

These Policy Guidelines were formally approved by Sida's Director General on 2003-10-08. Their purpose is to briefly describe the key principles of Sidas support to Private Sector Development (PSD) and to provide guidance for the design and implementation of such support. These Guidelines form part of Sida's efforts to put "Perspectives on Poverty" into practice. They are complemented by a background document "Making Markets Work for the Poor - Challenges to Sida's Support to Private Sector Development" (provisional edition October 2003).
