Hanoi, 21 September 2006

A team from the Center for Agricultural Policy (CAP) is working with Making Markets Systems work better for the Poor (M4P) to conduct field work, interviews and desk research in order to generate a set of 30 actual case studies of contract farming linking  small scale producers with processors. The case studies cover a wide variety of products and organizational types, and a variety of geographic settings (North, Center and South/ Peri-Urban, flatland and mountains). The case studies also indlude both sucessful and unsuccessful examples of contract farming. This is in order to provide a balanced view of the actual situation, and also to enable a wide range of lessons learned to be drawn out.

The CAP team has completed the fieldwork for the case studies and 30 draft studies have been prepared. A workshop was held on September 21, 2006 to discuss the information gathered and conclusions reached and gather feedback from stakeholders in order to finalize the studies.
