Sustainable Food Lab Summary Document, 9 October, 2007
What are the social, economic and environmental effects of purchases made by major
retailers on rural communities, producers and their families in the developing world? The current study seeks to provide initial insights into this question with a thorough examination of the French bean supply chain linking rural Guatemalan communities to the US retailer Costco. This study was commissioned by Costco under the umbrella of the Sustainable Food Laboratory initiative.
