Kent Business School Centre for Supply Chain Research (CSCR)

November 30, 2006 |

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is an area of activity that is now well-established as a powerful source of competitive advantage in the commercial world. Government is also embracing the principles of SCM in its approach to public procurement and the supply chain (as opposed to individual links therein) is rapidly becoming the unit of analysis for strategic managers, policy makers and lobby groups concerned with sustainable development and competitive advantage. However, as an academic discipline SCM remains in its infancy as the multi-functional and inter-disciplinary nature of what it involves makes it difficult for the academic community to find a suitable home for SCM research.

The Centre for Supply Chain Research (CSCR) at Kent Business School (KBS) is distinct from other academic institutions working in this area in two respects: first, the inter-disciplinary approach that is at the heart (rather than the periphery) of the research undertaken; second, the sectoral focus, which is food and construction - two sectors of significant economic importance, nationally and in the region, in which there is considerable scope for improvement in supply chain performance.

The aim of the Centre is to apply the world class research capability at KBS to identify best-practice in supply chain management and promote its adoption in the food and construction sectors.
